Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Five individual Stars score as Oklahoma City takes down OPSU 5-1 to complete the six-game home stand

OKLAHOMA CITY - The Oklahoma City women's soccer team cap off their six game home stand with a 5-1 win over Oklahoma Panhandle State as five individual Stars score to keep OCU undefeated in conference play.

First Half    
Oklahoma City started off with four shots in the first 18 minutes however came up empty until Reese Roberts nailed a shot from 40 yards out to put the Stars on the board first in the 19th minute of play. Entering the 34th minute OCU tacked on another score as McLain Moss launched a shot from outside of the box finding the net to put the Stars up 2-0 leading into the halftime break.
 
Second Half

The Stars wasted no time out of the half as Ashley Russell netted her first goal of the season in the 49th minute to extend the OCU lead out to 3-0. 10 minutes later OPSU got themselves on the scoreboard for the first time all evening with a goal from Nila Munoz. Oklahoma City struck again in the 68th minute as Jimena Martinez found Hallie Crom as Crom knocked in her second goal of the season give the Stars a 4-1 lead. OCU had one more left in them for the match as Sydney Hawkins found the back of net in the 78th minute of play to cap off the five goal night for the Stars as OCU clinched a victory over the Aggies 5-1.
 
GAME NOTES
  • Oklahoma City owned the possession taking 24 shots with 10 coming on-goal. The Stars attempted 15 shots in the first half and nine in the second half.
  • OPSU only took a total four shots with three on-goal attempts. The Aggies were allowed only shot in the first half and took three shots in the second half.
  • Five different Stars pitched in on the scoring as Reese Roberts knocked in the game winning goal right from the start for her fourth goal of the season to tie Gisselle Estrada for the second most goals on the team.
  • McLain Moss scored for the first time since Aug. 30 in the win over Bethany making it her second goal of the season.
  • Sophomore Ashely Russell scored her first goal of her OCU career as Russell caught the ball off of a deflection and dribbled her way into the six yard box for the score.
  • Hallie Crom scored for the second straight game off an assist from Jimena Martinez to give Crom her second goal of the 2023 season.
  • Sydney Hawkins capped off the big scoring night for the Stars with her first goal of the season as Hawkins nailed a shot after taking a pass away from an OPSU player.
  • Oklahoma City has combined for 11 goals in the past two games to open up conference play as the Stars lead all of the Sooner Athletic Conference in goals made.
  • OCU moved to 5-0 all-time against Oklahoma Panhandle State as the Stars have outscored the Aggies 29-3 in the series history dating back to 2019.
 
NEXT GAME
The Oklahoma City women's soccer team will hit the road for the first time since August as the Stars head to Chickasha, Okla. on Tuesday, Oct. 3 for a matchup against Science & Arts at 5 PM.
