Stars fall twice to LSU Alexandria

OCU finishes road trip to Louisiana with 1 p.m. contest Saturday

ALEXANDRIA, La. – Oklahoma City University opened the 2023 baseball season by falling in a doubleheader to LSU Alexandria 8-3 and 15-10 on Friday at Generals Field. 

Felix Chenier-Rondeau paced the Stars, ranked 11th in the NAIA, with three hits. Oklahoma City made its debut under new coach Keith Lytle

In the first game, Jesse Fonteboa put OCU ahead 2-1 with a two-out, third-inning RBI double. LSU Alexandria plated seven unanswered runs. 

The Stars loaded the bases in the seventh. Hunter Lenochan reached home plate when Rondeau got hit by pitch with the bases full.  

Rondeau, a junior psychology major from Blainville, Quebec, Canada, had two RBIs and went 1-for-3 with a run scored. Eli Davis took the Opening-Day loss.  

In the second contest, Trent Kiraly clouted a three-run home run to put Oklahoma City on top 10-9 in the sixth. Rondeau tacked on a run-scoring base hit in the inning. 

OCU cut its deficit to 9-6 in the fifth. Noah Kang and Barrett Daniel knocked in runs as part of the Stars' four-run inning.  

In the bottom of the sixth, LSU Alexandria regained the lead as Blaise Foote smacked a double with the bases loaded to drive in all three runs.  

Kiraly, a junior finance major from Farmington, N.M., drove in five runs. Daniel, a junior biomedical sciences major from Bixby, Okla., went 2-for-3 with an RBI, while Kang and Rondeau each turned in a 2-for-5 showing with an RBI. 

In the third, Chad Pike gave the Stars their first runs of the game by smacking a two-run homer. 

OCU concludes its series against LSU Alexandria at 1 p.m. Saturday at Generals Field.
