OCU vs. Mid-America Christian women's basketball preview

Stars play first home game of spring semester

THE MATCHUP 

• Oklahoma City University faces Mid-America Christian at Redlands Community College, which hosts the Sooner Athletic Conference women's basketball clash with Abe Lemons Arena unavailable
• OCU competes in its first home game since Abe Lemons Arena suffered major damage to the court. The remainder of OCU's home schedule will be played at multiple sites. OCU's games Jan. 21 and 26 will be at Oklahoma Christian University 
• Admission will be free of charge 

ABOUT THE STARS 

• Oklahoma City dispatched of Southwestern Christian 78-64 on Thursday night in Bethany, Okla. The Stars (7-8, 4-6 SAC) limited Southwestern Christian to its season low in field-goal percentage (31.9 percent) 
Fiona Wilson, a 5-foot-9 senior human performance major from Greenland, Ark., stood front and center for the Stars with 15 points, five rebounds and 3-for-3 shooting from 3-point range. She has turned in double-figure scoring the past six contests for a 15.8 points per game average during that span. Wilson has tallied 13.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 1.60 steals a game in 2022-23 
Cacie Gorman, a 6-foot junior studying psychology from Watonga, Okla., scored her season high with 14 points while grabbing six rebounds. She reached double digits in scoring for the sixth time this season. Gorman has posted 7.5 points and 6.4 rebounds per game this season 
• The Stars took the seventh spot in the preseason Sooner Athletic Conference coaches poll. Oklahoma City has seized 20 SAC regular-season championships and 12 SAC Tournament titles. Oklahoma City owns 26 appearances in the NAIA Division I Championship Tournament with nine national championships won in 1988, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2012, 2014, 2015 and 2017 with four national runner-up finishes (2003, 2004, 2005, 2019) 
• Oklahoma City leads the overall series against Mid-America Christian 30-3. Mid-America Christian eliminated the Stars from the SAC Tournament 68-58 on Feb. 25, 2022 at the Gaulke Activity Center. Wilson shared team-high scoring honors with 14 points 

ABOUT THE EVANGELS 

• Mid-America Christian fended off John Brown (Ark.) 71-60 on Thursday at the Gaulke Activity Center in Oklahoma City. The Evangels (13-3, 7-3 SAC) owned a plus-9 advantage in turnovers, collecting 19 John Brown turnovers while limiting their giveaways to a season-low 10 
• Jaci Littell, a 5-10 junior, had 18 points and three steals. Littell buried 6 of her 12 3-point attempts. Littell snared her second SAC player of the week award for Jan. 2-8 with 27.0 points a game and 51.9 percent shooting from 3-point land. She averages 16.1 points and 1.69 steals per game with a 44.3 percent 3-point shooting clip in 2022-23 
• The Evangels are receiving votes as the first team out of the NAIA top 25 
• Mid-America Christian ranks eighth among the NAIA in free-throw attempts with 23.6 per game and ninth in free throws made at 16.5 a game this season 
• SAC coaches placed Mid-America Christian at No. 3 in the preseason league poll 

MEET THE COACHES 

Kris Seigenthaler (first year at OCU) 

Kris Seigenthaler assumed the OCU head-coaching job after spending the last four years at Loyola (La.) as an assistant coach. Loyola made four national-tournament appearances with four 20-win seasons and twice sweeping the Southern States Athletic Conference regular-season and tournament titles  
• Seigenthaler has had coaching stops as an assistant at Auburn University at Montgomery (Ala.), Faulkner (Ala.) and Shorter (Ga.). While at Auburn Montgomery, the Women's Basketball Coaches Association included Seigenthaler among its rising stars in the coaching profession on the Thirty Under 30 list.  
• Seigenthaler began her coaching career as a graduate assistant at Shorter following a playing career at the University of Montevallo (Ala.) 

Hannah Moeller (143-55, seventh season at MACU) 
• Moeller led the Evangels to their first ever Sooner Athletic Conference regular-season title and NAIA National Tournament appearance in 2020-21 
• In 2021-22, Mid-America Christian posted the best record in program history with a 28-5 mark 
• Three-time National Christian College Athletic Association national coach of the year honoree while guiding Mid-America Christian to back-to-back NCCAA national titles in 2017-18 and 2018-19
