CARROLLTON, Texas – Oklahoma City University stood in third after the first day at the Maridoe Collegiate Invitational at Maridoe Golf Club.
The Stars, ranked 11th in NAIA men's golf, finished with a total score of 310-298–608, going 32 over par. Oklahoma City sat only 11 shots off ninth-ranked Texas Wesleyan for the lead and four shots off No. 3 Houston-Victoria for second. As a team, the Stars are in second on par 3s with a score of 3 over and have tallied 22 birdies.
Leading OCU is freshman from Broken Arrow, Okla.,
Alex Bloxham, who is tied for second at 1 under and finished with a score of 74-69–143 on the par-72, 7094-yard course. Bloxham sank six birdies compared to three bogeys. Out of 57 golfers, Bloxham was just one of three to finish the first two rounds under par. He sits two strokes off leader Ethan Dial of Texas Christian.
Leandro Mihaich sits in eighth with a score of 78-74–152 and five birdies after day one. Mihaich, a freshman from Córdoba, Argentina, is coming off a second-place finish at the Southwestern Christian Invitational.
The Stars'
Will Fore is tied for 23rd at 13 over par with a score of 82-75–157 after the first day. He totaled six birdies, getting three in each round.
OCU has three golfers tied for 34th with
Cameron Lopez,
Ben Thionnet, and
Tres Hill. All are 16 over and have similar scorecards. Lopez scored an 82-78–160. Thionnet carded a an 80-80–160, and Hill turned in a 78-82–160. Hill tied Mihaich for second at the Southwestern Christian Invitational.
The Stars tee off Tuesday at 8 a.m. at the Maridoe Golf Club with Bloxham in contention to win.
