COLUMBIA, Ga. – Oklahoma City University edged Southeastern (Fla.) 2-0 on Friday evening at South Commons Softball Complex in the NAIA Softball World Series.
Shelbey Cornelson limited Southeastern to two hits to boost the second-ranked Stars. Oklahoma City (51-6) faces seventh-ranked Indiana Wesleyan at 12:30 p.m. CDT (1:30 p.m. EDT) Saturday.
Cornelson, a junior from Tuttle, Okla., improved to 34-3 this year. Cornelson posted her ninth shutout of the season. She recorded no strikeouts for the first time in her career.
Two runners from 11th-ranked Southeastern reached scoring position Friday. In the fifth, Erica Stahl got on with a leadoff walk. Stahl took second base on a sacrifice bunt, but failed to advance further as Cornelson retired the next two batters on groundouts.
In the sixth, Haleigh Harrell nailed a leadoff double, then moved to third base on a throwing error. OCU turned a double play to get out of the inning.
The Stars took a second-inning 1-0 lead. Kaitlyn Jones smacked a leadoff base hit, then reached third base on Brooklyn Mason's double. Mallory McCoy brought home the run with a fly ball to center field.
In the third, Kennedy Jackson and Rally Radacy had back-to-back singles. Jackson swiped third base, then scored on a throwing error on the stolen base.
