FORT WORTH, Texas – Top-ranked Oklahoma City University rallied for a 5-3 victory over Texas Wesleyan on Saturday at Sycamore Park.
Oklahoma City salvaged a split of the twin bill after Texas Wesleyan took the first game 4-3 in eight innings. The Stars, ranked No. 1 in NAIA softball, went to 29-4, 15-3 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
In the second game, OCU erased a 3-1 deficit with four runs in the top of the seventh. Amy Crabaugh ignited the Stars' offense by crushing a home run beyond the left-field wall leading off the inning. Rally Radacy knocked in the tying run with a base hit along the middle of the infield.
Shelbey Cornelson's infield hit brought home the go-ahead run. Tiffany Paul reached home plate on an error to give the Stars a 5-3 lead.
Cornelson retired Texas Wesleyan in order in the bottom of the seventh. Cornelson (18-2) nabbed the win by working the final two innings. Cornelson, a junior from Tuttle, Okla., struck out three.
Kennedy Jackson, a senior from Moore, Okla., went 2-for-4 with a run scored and a stolen base.
In the early game, Brynna Foster brought Texas Wesleyan the win with an RBI base hit through the middle of the infield in the bottom of the eighth.
Before then, the Stars came back from a 3-0 third-inning deficit. Lexi Duff belted a two-out homer to right-center in the sixth. Paul smacked a two-run double into the left-center gap with two out in the seventh.
Paul, a redshirt freshman from Choctaw, Okla., put together a 2-for-4 outing with two RBIs, and Duff, a senior from Lone Grove, Okla., posted a double, homer and a 2-for-4 showing.
OCU faces Southwestern Assemblies of God (Texas) in a 2 p.m. doubleheader Thursday at Ann Lacy Stadium.
