No. 5 Stars Rout Sterling (Kan.) In Non-Conference Action

STERLING, Kan. – No. 5 ranked Oklahoma City University erupted for a season-high 22 hits in Tuesday afternoon's 19-1 non-conference road win over Sterling College. The previous high was a 21-hit outing in a 19-4 win over Science & Arts on Mar. 19.

OCU (31-3) scored all the runs it would need with a four-run second inning. Accounting for those runs were RBI singles by senior third baseman Darian Luper and senior second baseman Noah Barks and a two-RBI double by senior center fielder Cross Factor.

The Stars tacked on four more runs in the third inning before blowing the game open with a nine-hit, 10-run top of the fourth.

A total of 12 players contributed to the hit total for the Stars. Factor and senior first baseman Frederic Walter led the way with three hits apiece. Freshman second baseman Hunter Lenochan finished with two hits and a career-high three RBIs.

Senior designated hitter Evan Maun hit OCU's only homer of the game, a solo shot in the fifth inning that stretched the lead to 19-0.

A total of seven OCU pitchers limited Sterling to one run on five hits with six strikeouts and three walks in seven innings pitched. Senior Grant Harrison (4-0) was credited with the win after allowing no runs on one hit with two strikeouts and one walk in two innings of work.

OCU returns to action this weekend with a three-game home Sooner Athletic Conference series against Texas Wesleyan.
