OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University swept Southwestern College (Kan.) in a non-conference double header on Tuesday afternoon and evening at Jim Wade Stadium.
Â
OCU (3-0) took the opener 13-9 before claiming a 9-3 win in the night cap.
Â
Game One: OCU 13, Southwestern 9
The Stars came out firing, taking a 4-0 first inning lead on a pair of 2-run home runs by third baseman Frederick Walter and right fielder Evam Maun.
Â
OCU tacked on two more runs in the second inning and six runs in the third inning to build a 12-0 lead. Contributing to the hot start were a 3-RBI double by Second baseman
Noah Barks and two-home run home run by catcher
Cade Stephens, both in the third inning.
Â
The pitching combination of
Eli Davis,
Rylan Roberson and
Grant Harrison did their part by combining for a no-hitter through the first four innings. Harrison (1-0) allowed one run on two hits in the fifth but earned the win with 2.0 innings of work.
Â
Southwestern scored seven runs in the sixth inning and one run in the seventh to cut the deficit to 13-9 but the huge OCU lead would be too much to overcome for the visitors.
Â
OCU out-hit Southwestern 12-6 with six extra-base hits, four of them home runs.
Â
Barks, Stephens, Maun and center fielder
Felix Chenier-Rondeau finished with two hits apiece. Stephens finished with four RBIs and Barks with three RBIs.
Â
OCU's six pitchers combined four 11 strikeouts and five walks, with Roberson leading the way with four strikeouts in two innings of work.
Â
Game Two: OCU 9, Southwestern 3
Just like game one, OCU took it to the Moundbuilders early in game two. The Stars held an 8-0 lead after three innings.
Â
The Stars took a 1-0 lead in the first on a sac fly by first baseman
Peyton Crispin before exploding for a seven run third inning to build the 8-0 lead. The big blows in the third were a two-RBI triple by Crispin and three-run home run over the left field fence by left fielder
Jesse Fonteboa.
Â
Southwestern scored twice in the fourth inning and OCU rounded out its scoring when Maun scored on a balk in the fifth inning, pushing the lead to 9-2.
Â
The Stars were limited to four hits but they were deadly when applied. Crispin and Fonteboa finished with three RBIs apiece.
Â
Tanner Schoeninger (1-0) made the start and earned the win. He went four innings, allowing two runs on three hits with eight strikeouts and two walks.
Â
Tyler Polk contributed two no-hit innings of relief work with four strikeouts and two walks and
Jacob Wright closed out the win with one inning of work, allowing one run on one hit with two strikeouts and a walk.
