OCU looks to stay undefeated against the Trailblazers

THE MATCHUP
  • Oklahoma City clashes with North Texas Dallas for their second to last match before Christmas break
  • The Stars are 3-0 in three career games against UNT Dallas with the two teams last match coming in the SAC tournament on Feb. 22, 2022. OCU held the seventh seed and UNT Dallas held the 10th seed. OCU won the contest 69-67 after a game-winning Abby Selzer lay-up with 21 second remaining
  • Selzer finished with 20 points, and Elaine Witt had 17
  • The community is invited to Cookies with Santa in the student lounge of the Tom and Brenda McDaniel University Center from 1-2:30 p.m. Saturday. There will be cookie decorating, coloring and crafts with OCU mascot Starsky and picture-taking with Santa
  • Tickets cost $7 for adults and $5 for students. All tickets must be purchased via OCU's HomeTown Ticketing portal. No tickets are to be purchased via cash on site. OCU students, faculty and staff gain admission to all OCU regular-season home athletics events free of charge with their ID

  • Trailblazers hold a 5-2, 3-2 record, coming off back-to-back losses to Texas Wesleyan and Science & Arts.
  • Science & Arts beat UNT Dallas 70-65 on Dec. 3.
  • Kayla James led the Trailblazers with 15 points in the game.
  • Zyunn Cormier is averaging 20.8 ppg for UNT Dallas.
  • UNT Dallas is 3rd in steals per game (17.5) and 12th in offensive rebounds per game (17.3) in the NAIA.

MEET THE COACHES

Kris Segeinthaler (first year at OCU)
  • Kris Seigenthaler assumed the OCU head-coaching job after spending the last four years at Loyola (La.) as an assistant coach. Loyola made four national-tournament appearances with four 20-win seasons and twice sweeping the Southern States Athletic Conference regular-season and tournament titles.
  • Seigenthaler has had coaching stops as an assistant at Auburn University at Montgomery (Ala.), Faulkner (Ala.) and Shorter (Ga.). While at Auburn Montgomery, the Women's Basketball Coaches Association included Seigenthaler among its rising stars in the coaching profession on the Thirty Under 30 list.
  •  Seigenthaler began her coaching career as a graduate assistant at Shorter following a playing career at the University of Montevallo (Ala.)

 
Rodney Belcher
  • Became UNTD's first women's basketball coach in 2018.
  • His Plano High School Lady Wildcat posted a 35-6 record, capturing the Texas Class AAAAAA state championship in 2018.
  • Belcher served as an assistant men's coach at the University of New Mexico and Baylor.
  • Belcher is a Dallas Morning News' All-Area Coach of the Year winner.
  • Career 172-46 record as a high school coach with three district titles in six years.
