Stars lose 5-2 to nationally ranked Science & Arts

Stars secure No. 4 seed in SAC tournament

OKLAHOMA CITY - Oklahoma City Stars end the 2022 regular season with 5-2 loss against top ranked Science and Arts on senior night at Brian Harvey Field. The Stars move to 10-3-4, 5-2-2 on the season. Science and Arts has lost one game this year and is undefeated in the month of October, so this was a challenge for OCU going in. They competed hard this game just like they have all season to earn a home match in the SAC tournament. The Stars finish the regular season fourth in the SAC standings looking into the SAC conference tournament.

The Drovers started out the scoring with a penalty kick goal in the 19th minute. The Stars had good looks on the goal in the first period with a few early shots that were just wide or just high. There first shot on goal came in the 23rd minute by Abby Russell. The first period ended with the Drovers leading 2-0.

The second period, the Stars had a newfound energy and responded with an early shot on goal and eventually a goal by Saizlee Carlton around the 48th minute. The goal came off a shot by Caputo that was deflected. The goalie fell on the save allowing Saizlee to corral it for the goal. It was Carlton's sixth goal on the year. The Stars second goal in the game came in the 60th minute from Mille Templeman who got the pass from Rylee Orton right after Carlton's corner kick. The goal for Templeman was her fifth of the year. The assist from Orton would be the only one of the game. The Drovers would add two more goal late in the period.

Overall, the Stars put together 11 shots, four shots on goal compared to the Drovers 12 shots and seven shots on goal. Irene Gonzales and Caitlin Bishop finished with 2 saves each. Caputo led the stars with three shots. Abby Russell, Saizlee Templeman and Caputo each had a shot on goal.

The Stars regular season might be over but that does not mean their season is. Come back Friday 7pm to see the Stars face Texas Wesleyan for their home match in the SAC tournament at Brian Harvey Field. The Stars are the four seed and Texas Wesleyan is the five seed.
