SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. – Oklahoma City University took its first loss in conference play of the season 5-1 to John Brown (Ark.) on Saturday at Alumni Field.
JBU was ranked 11th in the NAIA coaches' preseason women's soccer poll and are currently ranked No. 24. The Stars went to 9-2-2, 4-1 in the SAC.
OCU suffered its first loss since a 2-1 setback to Baker (Kan.) on Sept. 4 in Oklahoma City. The Stars had gone 6-0-2 since then.
OCU's only goal came from
Madi Caputo in the eighth minute. The ball slipped away from John Brown keeper Chloe Griffin's hold, and Caputo turned and knocked in the tying goal from 22 yards out. Caputo was the Stars' main offense as she had eight shots and seven shots on goal.
Abby Russell and
Cara Compton had the other two shots for the Stars.
John Brown scored early in the fourth minute, then regained the lead in the 16th minute. The Golden Eagles finished with 20 shots and 12 shots on goal compared to the Stars 10 shots and eight shots on goal. JBU had a total of 13 corner kicks, which they turned into two goals.
Irene Gonzalez had a total of seven saves to tie Griffin.
OCU will play Southwestern Christian at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Brian Harvey Field for its next matchup.
