Keiser denies OCU 7-3

Stars come within two victories of World Series

WESTWEGO, La. – Oklahoma City University came up short to Keiser (Fla.) 7-3 on Thursday at Segnette Field in the NAIA Baseball Championship Opening Round New Orleans Bracket.
The Stars fell two wins short of an NAIA World Series berth. Oklahoma City, ranked 20th, completed the season 36-19, while 17th-ranked Keiser moved on to the World Series.
Gunner Halter staked OCU to an early lead by hammering a leadoff home run beyond the left-field wall. Keiser responded with four runs in the bottom of the first inning as Kemper Bednar's sacrifice fly put the Seahawks on top 4-1.
The Stars struck for a pair of runs in the second. Jared Hazeldine smacked an RBI single to center field, and Halter knocked in a run with a base hit to right.
Keiser tacked on a pair of runs in the sixth. Mason Dinesen nailed a two-run double.
Halter, a senior from Overland Park, Kan., posted a 3-for-5 day with two RBIs, a run scored, a double and his 15th homer of the season. Peyton Crispin, a senior from Lookeba, Okla., went 2-for-4.
Chris Bennefield pitched 5.1 innings in relief. Grant Harrison struck out four in 2.1 innings and stuck out the side in the seventh.
The Stars were seeking their first NAIA World Series appearance since 2018. Oklahoma City have made 16 trips to the World Series, including 14 under Denney Crabaugh. Crabaugh has directed the Stars to the 2005 national championship and runner-up finishes in 2002, 2003 and 2004.
