Stars knocked out by Midland 7-3

OCU falls short of NAIA Softball World Series for first time since 2015

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University was eliminated from the NAIA Softball Championship Opening Round Oklahoma City Bracket by Midland (Neb.) 7-3 on Tuesday at Ann Lacy Stadium.
Katlin Anders keyed 25th-ranked Midland with a third-inning grand slam. No. 2-ranked OCU completed its season at 44-6.
Oklahoma City missed out on the NAIA Softball World Series for the first time since 2015. OCU, which was the 2019 NAIA runner-up, had made the past four World Series. OCU owns 32 World Series appearances, including 23 consecutive trips from 1992-2014. OCU has captured 10 national championships in 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2007, 2016 and 2017.
Kennedy Jackson reached home plate with the Stars' first run of the day on Baileigh Loux's sacrifice bunt in the first inning.
In the second, Amy Crabaugh laid down a bunt that moved Brooklyn Mason from second to third base. Anders, the Midland catcher, fielded the bunt and threw the ball into right field trying to retire Crabaugh at first base, allowing Mason to round the bases. OCU led 2-0.
Midland built a 6-2 third-inning advantage on Roni Foote's two-run homer. Rain interrupted the game in the top of the third for a brief delay.
Nicole Robinson led off the bottom of the fourth on a base hit. The Stars cut their deficit to 6-3 as Robinson reached home plate on a fielder's choice.
Mason, a junior from Lone Grove, Okla., turned in a 3-for-3 performance with two stolen bases, while Jackson, a senior from Moore, Okla., went 2-for-3. Sarah Fisher, a senior from Vista, Calif., and Loux, a senior from Reno, Nev., each had an RBI.
No. 20 Ottawa (Kan.) took the tournament to qualify for the NAIA Softball World Series.
