Stars eliminated from SAC Tournament

Wayland Baptist advances to conference tournament championship game

PLAINVIEW, Texas – Oklahoma City University's run in the Sooner Athletic Conference women's basketball tournament came to a close in an 88-63 setback to Wayland Baptist (Texas) on Friday evening at the Hutcherson Center.
Wayland Baptist topped OCU in a battle of unbeatens in the conference tournament semifinals. The Stars, ranked 23rd in the NAIA, went to 5-1 on the season.
OCU fell short of the SAC Tournament championship game for the first time since 2014. Second-ranked Wayland Baptist (12-0) will host Langston (8-6) at 6 p.m. Monday in the SAC Tournament championship in Plainview, Texas.
Erika Ankney, a junior from Harrah, Okla., spearheaded Oklahoma City with 18 points, five rebounds and three steals. Abby Selzer, a junior from Thomas, Okla., added 13 points and nine rebounds, while Paige Pendley, a sophomore from Elgin, Okla., turned in 12 points for the Stars.
OCU became the third team to hold Wayland Baptist below 40 percent shooting from the field as the Flying Queens mustered 38.8 percent shooting from the floor.
