PLAINVIEW, Texas – Destiny Lyng provided the highlight in Oklahoma City University's 27-14 setback to Wayland Baptist (Texas) in a showdown of top 25-ranked NAIA women's wrestling squads Thursday at the Laney Center.

Lyng posted the victory for the 13th-ranked Stars in a clash of individuals ranked among the top five at their weight. Seventh-ranked Wayland Baptist won in its first dual of the season. OCU has gone 0-2 this season with both losses to teams rated in the top seven nationally.

Lyng, ranked fourth at 143 pounds, nabbed the 6-2 triumph over Jordan Suarez, the fifth-ranked wrestler at 136 among the NAIA. Lyng, a senior from La Mesa, Calif., came through with two takedowns in the second period to secure the win. Lyng remained unbeaten with a 7-0 mark on the season.

Angelina Adams and Adriana Orozco also came out on top in their matches. Orozco collected a technical fall for Oklahoma City. Orozco, a junior from Gilroy, Calif., overwhelmed Liana Souza 11-0 in the 155-pound match. Orozco (2-2) notched five takedowns while wrapping up the dual with her win.

Adams opened the dual by prevailing 8-2 over Olivia Ricci at 170 pounds. Adams, a freshman from Fort Worth, Texas, improved to 2-3 this season.

Oklahoma City concluded the first semester with the dual and will remain idle until the NWCA National Duals on Jan. 7-8 in Louisville, Ky.
