PLAINVIEW, Texas – Jon McGowan and Drake Vannoy sparked Oklahoma City University with back-to-back falls in a 29-15 victory over Wayland Baptist (Texas) on Thursday afternoon at the Laney Center.
The Stars rolled to five wins in a row to overcome a 9-0 deficit in the dual. Oklahoma City, ranked 11th in NAIA men's wrestling, improved to 2-1 in duals on the season.
Keegan Luton registered OCU's first win of the day 19-5 in the 149-pound match. Luton, a freshman from Mustang, Okla., went to 12-1 this season.
McGowan stuck the pin against Cody Dixon in 28 seconds in the 157-pound bout. McGowan, a senior from Hulbert, Okla., owns a 2-4 mark on the season. Vannoy added a fall in 3:39 over Malakai Owens at 165. Vannoy, a sophomore from Jenks, Okla., took his record to 7-5.
Kolbe Madron, a freshman from Sulphur, Okla., supplied the Stars with an 11-2 win, then Chase Vincent, a senior from Yukon, Okla., took a 5-3 victory at 184 pounds. Oklahoma City led 23-9.
Jack Kitchingham, a freshman from Mustang, Okla., polished off the victory with a fall in 3:38 against William Bennet.
