Luton of Stars grabs crown in Lindenwood Open

Four OCU wrestlers place in tournament

ST. CHARLES, Mo. – Oklahoma City University's Keegan Luton reeled in the 149-pound title in the freshman-sophomore division of the Lindenwood Open on Saturday at Hyland Arena. 

Four Stars placed in the tournament. Jack Kitchingham took second place at 285 pounds, and Cooper Mahaffey finished sixth at 125 in the freshman-sophomore division. In the open division, Jaxen Gilmore hauled in sixth at 149 for OCU, ranked 11th in NAIA men's wrestling. 

Luton, a freshman from Mustang, Okla., became the 149-pound champion in the black division with a 5-3 win in sudden victory against Drake Campbell from Triton (Ill.). Luton prevailed with a takedown in the sudden-victory period. Luton won his bracket with a 5-2 win over Dylan Brown from Northeastern A&M. Luton compiled a 4-0 mark with two major-decision victories plus a fall Saturday. Luton (11-1) began his day with a pin against Ian Heath of Marian (Ind.) in 3:39. He owns tournament titles in both the open tournaments he has competed in as a collegian. 

Kitchingham dropped the 285-pound title match 8-0 to Judson Rowland. Kitchingham, a freshman from Mustang, Okla., notched two pins, including one in 21 seconds against Xavier Bustamante of Avila (Mo.). 

Oklahoma City takes on Wayland Baptist (Texas) at 2 p.m. Dec. 2 in Plainview, Texas.
