WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Oklahoma City University grabbed the victory in the Midwestern State Mustangs Invitational on Saturday at Lake Wichita Park.
Fares Marrouf became the first OCU runner to cross the finish line. The Stars, ranked seventh in NAIA men's cross country, finished atop the team standings for
Frezer Legesse's first team win as Oklahoma City head coach.
Marrouf, a freshman from Piedmont, Okla., reeled in his best finish of the season, completing the 8,000-meter race in 26 minutes, 37.9 seconds, which was good for third place. Three Stars delivered top-five finishes with
Halen Biggs nabbing fourth and
Brendan Robeaux snagging fifth.
Biggs, a freshman from Oklahoma City, turned in a mark of 26:40.3, while Robeaux, a freshman from Mustang, Okla., posted a time of 26:40.8.
Two more OCU individuals finished among the top 25. The Stars'
Tate Smithhart, a freshman from Vilonia, Ark., came in 19th with a 28:07.6, and
Tanner Huffman, a freshman from Choctaw, Okla., recorded a time of 28:17.7, which placed him 23rd.
Other Stars who competed were Edward Pope (29:48.2),
Dezmen Loving (31:23.1) and
Wyatt Fincher (33:32.7).
