BETHANY, Okla. – Oklahoma City University opened a critical season-ending three-game road swing with a dominating 6-1 Sooner Athletic Conference win over Southwestern Christian on Friday afternoon at Cagle Family Field 0n the SCU campus.
The win pushed OCU (9-5, 4-3 SAC) to a for third place in the conference standings with 12 points with tie games remaining against Central Christian (Kan.) and Science & Arts.
Senior
Mallorie Lane got the scoring started for the Stars when she tucked the ball inside the left post from short range in the second minute with the assist going to senior
April Hill. Sophomore
McLain Moss scored in the 15th minute and senior
Sofia Carvajal Granados added a goal in the 35th minute to push the Stars to a 3-0 halftime lead.
Hill got the scoring started in the second half when she directed an airborne cross from senior
Madi Caputo into the net with a header in the 56
th minute. OCU would take a 5-0 lead when freshman
Ciana Carlton found the back of the net on an assist by Lane in the 64th minute.
SCU (6-7, 2-4) notched its only goal of the game on a score by Evelyn Najera in the 66th minute. Carvajal Granados capped off the scoring for OCU when she scored from close range in the 85th minute with the assist going to freshman
Sydney Hawkins.
OCU out-shot SCU 22-11, finishing with a 16-6 advantage in shots on goal. Senior goalkeeper
Josie Knox made five saves for the Stars, including a grab of a short-range tap in front of the goal after a corner kick in the first half and a diving save on a mid-range shot headed for the near post lower corner early in the second half.
OCU returns to action next Wednesday with a road game at Central Christian. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m.
