BETHANY, Okla. – Southwestern Christian edged Oklahoma City University 3-2 in overtime in a hard-fought Sooner Athletic Conference contest on Friday afternoon at Cagle Family Field on the SCU campus.
Â
SCU (9-4-1, 3-2-1 SAC) scored two goals in the first 25 minutes to take an early lead. OCU (8-6, 2-5) fought back, however, to tie the score 2-2 at halftime.Â
Â
Senior
John Woodhead got the OCU scoring started when he directed a pass off of a free kick from sophomore
Tommaso Belli into the net from just inside the 20-yard line in the 31st minute. Senior
Lucas de Freitas then scored from 12 yards out off an assist from Woodhead in the 39th minute to even things up.
Â
Neither team scored in a physical second half, setting up the overtime period. Jeremiah Vidale scored the game winner for the Eagles in the 92nd minute when he redirected a rocket shot that deflected off OCU senior goalkeeper
Danilo Vilani into the net.
Â
SCU finished with a 13-4 edge in shots on goal with Vilani keeping the Stars in the contest by making a season-high 10 saves.
Â
A total of eight yellow cards were issued in the contest, with OCU drawing five of those and SCU finishing with three.
Â
OCU returns to action next Wednesday with a road game at Central Christian. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
