Stars collect No. 1 seed in SAC Tournament

No. 1-ranked OCU meets Langston at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Abe Lemons Arena

OKLAHOMA CITY – No. 1-ranked Oklahoma City University reeled in the top seed in the Sooner Athletic Conference women's basketball tournament which tips off Tuesday in quarterfinal contests on campus sites throughout the league.
The Stars (28-1) take on No. 8 seed Langston (11-15) at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Abe Lemons Arena in Oklahoma City. OCU takes aim at its 13th SAC Tournament championship.
Tuesday's other quarterfinals – which all have 6 p.m. start times – feature No. 2 seed Wayland Baptist (Texas) (28-2) entertaining Southwestern Assemblies of God (Texas) (14-14) at the Hutcherson Center in Plainview, Texas; No. 3 Science & Arts of Oklahoma (20-9) meeting No. 6 Southwestern Christian (19-9) in Chickasha, Okla.; and No. 4 Mid-America Christian (20-10) facing fifth seed Texas Wesleyan (17-10) at the Gaulke Activity Center in Oklahoma City.
Oklahoma City collected its 20th SAC regular-season championship. The Stars and Wayland Baptist split the conference regular-season championship after the fifth-ranked Flying Queens topped OCU 65-50 on Thursday in Plainview, Texas. The Stars owned the tiebreaker based on having a better record against NAIA Division I competition this season.
The Hutcherson Center in Plainview, Texas will be the site of the SAC Tournament semifinals and championship March 6-7. The tournament championship is set for 1 p.m. Saturday, March 7 at Wayland Baptist.
OCU reached the SAC Tournament championship game for the fifth year in a row and 18th time overall last year. Wayland Baptist is the defending conference tournament champion. The Flying Queens prevailed for their third SAC Tournament crown 68-62 over Oklahoma City on March 2, 2019 in Oklahoma City. Maci Merket snatched up the tournament most valuable player after a 22-point, 12-rebound performance. The Stars' Abby Selzer made the all-tournament team.
