Stars stomp Wayland Baptist 45-3

OCU take wins in nine of 10 matches Friday night

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University blasted Wayland Baptist 45-3 on Friday night at Abe Lemons Arena.
Ryan Bracken and Jon McGowan supplied the Stars with falls. Oklahoma City, ranked 11th in NAIA men's wrestling, moved to 7-3 in duals.
The Stars reached 45 points for the third time this season. OCU treated the crowd which honored the Stars' seniors and included several alumni of the program.
McGowan, a sophomore from Hulbert, Okla., finished the 157-pound match against Brandon Chapin in 2:35. McGowan, ranked 14th nationally, improved to 16-8 this season. Bracken, a sophomore from Blanchard, Okla., pinned Brandon Bennett in the heavyweight bout in 2:46. Bracken moved to 17-7.
Jaxen Gilmore provided OCU with a spark to begin the dual at 141 pounds. Gilmore, a sophomore from Yukon, Okla., notched four-point near falls in the first and third periods on the way to a 16-0 technical-fall triumph. Gilmore, rated 13th in the country, went to 15-3.
The Stars' Easton Rendleman topped Justin Vargas 15-2 in the 197-pound match. Rendleman, a sophomore from Choctaw, Okla., notched a third-period four-point near fall. Rendleman, ranked eighth at his weight, pushed his record to 17-5.
Montana Moon rolled to a 15-4 victory over Gabe Gray at 125 pounds. Moon, a junior from Chickasha, Okla., posted four-point near falls in the first and second periods. Moon, the 10th-ranked 125-pounder in the NAIA, owns a 13-4 season mark.
Austin Loza, a sophomore from Enid, Okla., had another four-point near fall for the Stars in his 13-5 win at 149 pounds.
OCU faces Texas Wesleyan at 7 p.m. Feb. 14 in Fort Worth, Texas.
