Stars rout Central Methodist, Emmanuel

OCU notches second victory over ranked opponent this season

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University mauled Emmanuel (Ga.) 34-10 and Central Methodist (Mo.) 41-5 on Sunday afternoon at Abe Lemons Arena.
Raven Guidry and Mattison Parker paced OCU with two falls each. The Stars, ranked ninth in NAIA women's wrestling, improved to 4-2 in duals.
Abby Mainzer and Irene Sanchez also turned in pins for Oklahoma City. The Stars went to 2-2 against ranked teams with the victory over 17th-ranked Central Methodist.
"I'm so proud of the girls," OCU coach Nicole Tyson said. "Every single one of them wrestled as hard as they could and were all extremely impressive on the mat. This is the best performance we have had as a team this year, and it excites me for the rest of our season."
Guidry, a junior from Lafayette, La., had the quickest fall of the day against Central Methodist's Giovanna Loza, ranked 12th among NAIA 116-pounders, in 28 seconds. Guidry, ranked 11th nationally at 109, also pinned Britney Lamey from Emmanuel in 41 seconds. Guidry moved to 6-6 with four falls on the season.
Parker, a freshman from Haslet, Texas, finished off Niya Gaines of Emmanuel in 2:25 and Central Methodist's Jaydan Driskell in 33 seconds. Parker, rated seventh at 130, increased her season total to three pins with a 5-7 mark. The Stars trailed 8-5 in the dual against Emmanuel, but Parker's pin sparked six OCU victories to finish the dual.
Mainzer collected her first two wins on the season. Mainzer, a senior from Sewannee, Tenn., went to 2-3 in 2019-20 with a forfeit win against Emmanuel and a fall in 34 seconds over Seattle Bowen of Central Methodist.
Sanchez, a freshman from Madrid, Spain, notched her first career fall and technical-fall win. Sanchez (3-4) pinned Julia Lhotellier of Emmanuel in 58 seconds and won over Andrea Montoya of Central Methodist 10-0.
Sydney Freund and Destiny Lyng each supplied the Stars with two technical-fall victories. Nkechinyere Nwankwo, ranked No. 1 nationally at 191 pounds, went 2-0 with a win by technical fall. Nwankwo, a sophomore from Houston, has a 10-1 season mark.
OCU won all nine of the matches contested against Central Methodist. The Stars forfeited at 123 pounds.
Oklahoma City meets Texas Wesleyan at 6 p.m. Wednesday in Fort Worth, Texas.
