Columbia ousts Stars 5-4

OCU falls short of third consecutive NAIA World Series berth

SHREVEPORT, La. – Columbia (Mo.) eliminated Oklahoma City University from the NAIA Baseball Championship Opening Round with a 5-4 win Tuesday night at Pilot Field.
The Stars finished their season at 46-14. OCU had been bidding to reach the NAIA World Series for the third consecutive year.
Denney Crabaugh will enter 2020 looking for career win No. 1,500. Crabaugh has led OCU to a 1,499-460-2 record in 31 years as OCU coach. OCU leads college baseball in wins since 1991 with 1,433 under Crabaugh.
Columbia plated four runs in the ninth inning. Kenny Piper sparked the Cougars by hitting a home run to lead off the top of the ninth. Columbia took advantage of two errors to rally past the Stars.
OCU scored four runs in the bottom of the fourth. Peyton Crispin and Caleb Davis each smacked RBI singles. Davis scored on a wild pitch, while Dylan Taylor brought home Crispin on a bunt.
Davis, a junior from Yukon, Okla., turned in a 2-for-4 performance with a run driven in, and Walbergh, a senior from Edmond, Okla., went 2-for-5. Barks, a freshman from Mustang, Okla., had a 2-for-5 night.
