OCU whitewashes Southwestern Christian 13-0, 8-0

Smith hits 25th home run of year

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University trampled Southwestern Christian 13-0 and 8-0 on Wednesday at Ann Lacy Stadium.
Jaden Shores raked in her second no-hitter of the year and seventh of her OCU career. The Stars, ranked third in NAIA softball, improved to 46-6, 28-4 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
Shores, a junior from Blanchard, Okla., allowed two walks and two hit batters in five innings during the first game. Shores struck out nine and retired the final nine Southwestern Christian batters in order. Shores went to 23-4 on the year.
Jaci Smith clubbed a two-run home run beyond the left-field wall to give OCU a second-inning 7-0 lead. Smith, a senior from Godley, Texas, hit her 25th homer and drove in her 104th run of the year. Smith tops the NAIA in both categories and already owns the OCU single-season RBI record.
Bailey Whitmore knocked in two runs with a single to right field to put the Stars ahead 5-0 in the first. Morgan McCallum opened the scoring by smacking a two-run double to left.
Julianne Abeloe belted an RBI double into left for a 9-0 OCU second-inning advantage. Abeloe added a run-scoring base hit to give OCU a 12-0 third-inning cushion.
Whitmore, a senior from Oklahoma City, turned in a 2-for-3 showing with three RBIs, while McCallum, a junior from Mesquite, Texas, added three RBIs and three runs scored while going 1-for-3.
Abeloe, a senior from Santa Paula, Calif., went 2-for-2, scored twice and drove in two runs, and Baileigh Loux
, a senior from Reno, Nev., had a 2-for-3 performance with two runs scored.
In the second game, Kylie Dodson whitewashed Southwestern Christian on three hits and a walk in six innings. Dodson, a freshman from Mustang, Okla., notched five strikeouts. Dodson moved to 23-2 this year.
Abeloe laid down a squeeze bunt for a hit to bring home Brittany Perez to grow OCU's lead to 5-0 in the third.
Gaby Zucchiatti had an RBI single to put the Stars on top 6-0 in the fifth.
McCallum had two sacrifice flies, while Whitmore had another. Kennedy Jackson, a sophomore from Moore, Okla., went 3-for-4 and stole two bases, while Zucchiatti, a junior from Millbrae, Calif., had a 2-for-3 game with a run scored and an RBI.
Loux scored three times and went 2-for-3, and Whitmore was 1-for-2 with a run driven in.
Oklahoma City takes on Mid-America Christian in a 2 p.m. doubleheader Friday on the road.
