OKLAHOMA CITY - Oklahoma City University trounced Langston (Okla.) 10-2 and 16-7 on Tuesday at Ann Lacy Stadium.
Oklahoma City hit double figures in runs scored for the 27th time this season. The Stars, ranked second in NAIA softball, went to 42-4, 24-2 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
In the first game, OCU overcame a 2-1 deficit by plating five runs in the third inning. Morgan McCallum drove in Kennedy Jackson with an infield single, Jaci Smith scored on a passed ball, Brittany Perez came home on a Bailey Whitmore sacrifice fly, McCallum scored on Julianne Abeloe's single and then scored when Shelby Riggs singled down the right field line to give the Stars a 6-2 lead.
McCallum added a two-run single in the fourth knocking in Smith and Perez.
Smith laced a single back through the box to walk it off for OCU. Riggs scored and then Jaden Shores came home on the throw.
Smith, a senior from Godley, Texas, turned in a 4-for-4 day with three runs, two RBIs, a first inning home run, a double and a stolen base. McCallum, a junior from Mesquite, Texas, was 2-of-3 with three RBIs and a run scored, while Abeloe, a senior from Santa Paula, Calif., went 2-for-3 with a run scored, an RBI and a stolen base for the Stars.
Shores collected the victory. Shores, junior from Blanchard, Okla., had four strikeouts in five innings pitched. She allowed one three.
In the nightcap, the Stars broke a 2-2 tie by erupting for four runs in the second and nine more runs in the third.
In the first inning, Langston's Celia Bigger hit a two-run home run to left, scoring Lillian Harjo, then in the bottom of the first Baileigh Loux laced a triple into the left field corner driving in Smith then McCallum doubled to left center to score Loux to knot the game at 2-2.
Gaby Zucchiatti scored on an error and then Smith deposited the 2-2 pitch over the wall in left center in the second.
In the third, Whitmore singled home McCallum, then Abeloe scored on Jackson's single, followed by Smith singling to drive in Whitmore and Riggs, McCallum drove in Sha Ingram, then Perez scored on a groundout and McCallum scored on an error to put OCU ahead 15-2.
Langston got a run in the fourth when Kiamni Woodard singled home Lyric Cheadle.
Oklahoma City answered right back when Riggs came home on a Sierra Jones ground out.
The Lady Lions rallied for four runs in the top of the fifth, but the rally was stopped when Kylie Dodson struck out Monique Collins to end the threat.
Smith was 3-for-4 with a home run, five RBIs and three runs scored, while Jackson, a sophomore from Moore, Okla., and McCallum went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Riggs, a freshman from Binger, Okla., scored went 2-of-2 scoring three for the Stars.
Dodson, a freshman from Mustang, Okla., improved to 21-1 allowing seven runs, two earned on five hits and struck out one.
The Stars take on Southwestern Christian (Okla.) in a 2 p.m. doubleheader Wednesday in Bethany, Okla.
