OCU wipes out Central Christian 24-0, 16-0

Smith drives in 12, while scoring seven runs

McPHERSON, Kan. – Oklahoma City University overwhelmed Central Christian (Kan.) 24-0 and 16-0 in a doubleheader stretched over Tuesday and Wednesday at Central Christian softball complex.
Jaci Smith hammered two home runs and drove in 12 runs in the series to spark OCU. The Stars, ranked No. 2 in NAIA softball, improved to 24-4, 6-2 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
In the first game, the Stars scored quickly Kennedy Jackson scored on a throwing error during a double steal, Brittany Perez then launched a two-run home run to left driving in Smith and Jaden Shores grounded to short to knock in Bailey Whitmore to put OCU out front 4-0 after an inning.
Julianne Abeloe smacked a solo home run to lead off the second. Whitmore doubled to left center to score Smith and Perez.
Jackson tripled down the left field line to score Shelby Riggs and Abeloe and came in to score on Smith's single, then Whitmore smashed a double into right center to drive in Smith and Perez to provide the Stars a 12-0 third-inning advantage.
Abeloe's three-run homer sparked a 12-run fourth inning for the OCU. Morgan McCallum added an RBI single, while Shores and Sierra Jones reached on back-to-back errors with the bases loaded, Sha Ingram added an RBI groundout, followed by Jackson's RBI single and then capped off by Smith's grand slam to right field to put Oklahoma City up 24-0.
Jackson, a sophomore from Moore, Okla., went 3-for-4, scored four runs, knocked in three runs, stole a base and hit a triple, while Smith went 4-for-5 with five runs scored, five RBIs, a home run and a stolen base. Julianne Abeloe, a senior from Santa Paula, Calif., was 3-for-3 with four runs scored, four RBIs and two home runs, and Bailey Whitmore, a senior from Oklahoma City, turned in a 3-for-5 performance with four RBIs, scoring a run and swiping a base.  
The Stars' Shores improved to 12-3 on the year. Shores, a junior from Blanchard, Okla., struck out two and allowed a hit in a five inning shutout.
In the second game, Perez propelled OCU to a five-run first inning, nailing a three-run home run to center. Jackson and Smith each stole home in the inning for the Stars.
OCU posted two runs in the second, when Smith smacked a two-run homer to right to give the Stars a 7-0 lead. Then in the third Smith's single drove in Gaby Zucchiatti and Riggs.
Jackson got the scoring started in the fourth when she knocked in Zucchiatti, Smith followed with a double to score Abeloe and Whitmore reached on a fielder's choice to allow Jackson to score extending the Stars lead to 13-0.
In the fifth, Zucchiatti scored on a Jackson groundout and Riggs and Abeloe scored the final runs on a Smith double to right center.
Smith had a 5-for-5 showing with seven runs driven in, two runs scored, two doubles and a home run, Zucchiatti, a junior from Millbrae, Calif., added a 2-for-2 performance with three runs scored. Jackson and Perez each had three RBIs, and Jackson and Riggs each scored three runs for OCU.
Kylie Dodson, earned the victory by shutting out Central Christian for five innings. Dodson, a freshman from Mustang, Okla., allowed two hits and struck out five. Dodson went to 12-1.
The Stars face Bacone in a 2 p.m. doubleheader Friday in Muskogee, Okla. at Bacone College's softball field.
