Stars trounces Tabor 10-0

McPherson deals No. 1-ranked OCU its first loss of season

CHICKASHA, Okla. – Top-ranked Oklahoma City University pummeled Tabor (Kan.) 10-0 on Sunday at the Chickasha Sports Complex.
The Stars, ranked No. 1 in NAIA softball, ran their record to 12-0 before falling to McPherson (Kan.) 5-2 later in the day.
Against Tabor, Brittany Perez smacked a two-run base hit to center field to finish up a six-run OCU uprising in the second inning. Jaden Shores added a two-run single to left to give OCU a 9-0 cushion in the fourth.
Perez, a senior from Ventura, Calif., collected two hits in two at-bats with a pair of runs scored and two RBIs. Shores and Bailey Whitmore each had two runs driven in.
Kylie Dodson, a freshman from Mustang, Okla., blanked Tabor on two hits and two walks. Dodson improved to 6-0 in 2019.
McPherson plated four runs in the third en route to the win. Taylor Perez had an RBI single to give McPherson a 4-1 third-inning lead.
OCU scored single runs in the first and fourth innings. Whitmore knocked in a run with a base hit to center field, and Kennedy Jackson added an RBI single to left in the fourth.
Baileigh Loux, a sophomore from Reno, Nev., had a 2-for-4 outing, and Whitmore went 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Shores took the loss. She struck out four in five innings and went to 6-1.
OCU meets Kansas Wesleyan at 3:05 p.m. March 1 in the Southern Collegiate Sports Invitational at Grand Prairie, Texas.
