Stars split doubleheader with Concordia

Tyler Williams drives in five runs on the day

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University split its doubleheader against Concordia Sunday afternoon at Jim Wade Stadium, winning game one 2-1 and falling in game two 8-4.
Noah Barks and Quinton Walbergh each had two-hit in game one of Sunday's doubleheader. Barks, a freshman from Yukon, Okla., and Walbergh, a senior from Edmond, Okla., finished 2-for-3 with a run scored. OCU, ranked eighth in NAIA baseball, went to 14-2 overall, while Concordia moved to 1-3 on the year.
The Stars put up both runs on the board in the first inning of game one, Barks led of the game with a single to left and Walbergh double and they both crossed the plate when Tyler Williams singled to right center.
The Bulldogs responded in the fourth getting a run back on a Carson Lindell single that drove in Teyt Johnson. Tyler Williams, a junior from Peoria, Ariz., collected the only other hit for OCU going 1-for-3 with two RBIs.
Kolin Marley, a junior from Norman, Okla., picked up his second win of the season after pitching 4.0 innings, allowing just an earned run and striking out four. Grant Harrison, a freshman from Jones, Okla., came in for the final three innings of relief. Harrison struck out four batters and did not allow a hit, earning his first save of the season.
In game two, Concordia started off the scoring in the third when Wade Council tripled and then scored when the relay throw from center bounced into the Concordia dugout. In the fourth the Bulldogs added a run when Cristian Meza was hit by the pitch with the bases loaded and Council singled to left driving in Lindell and Dylan Jacob. Concordia added two more runs in the fifth when Jacob doubled home Peyton Scott and  scored on a Council sacrifice fly to put the Bulldogs up 7-0.
The Stars where held hitless by Concordia's Tanner Wauhob for the first four frames. OCU scored all four runs in the fifth inning. Michael Spetter led off with a single through the left side, followed by Barks who popped a Texas leaguer over the third baseman. Jared Hazeldine scored the first run on a groundout by Walbergh, before Elliott Cary is walked and Tyler Williams unloaded on the first pitch he saw sending it over the right field fence for a three-run home run for the Stars cutting Concordia's lead to 7-4.
Concordia added an insurance run in the seventh on an error.

Oklahoma City rallied in the seventh when Walbergh singled to start the inning, Tyler Williams was hit by the pitch and Bryson Lierle singled to right to load the bases, before the next two batters struck out swinging to end the game.
Dylan Grove, a senior from Moore, Okla., pitched 3.2 innings and gave up five earned runs while striking out six to receive his first loss of the season. Spencer Flatt, a freshman from Ardmore, Okla., struck out one and allowed two earned run in an inning of work and Chris Bennefield, a freshman from Owasso, Okla., threw the final 2.1 innings giving up an unearned run and had two strike outs.
