Stars thwart MidAmerica Nazarene 3-2

Milligan strikes out 10 adding to his season total of 31

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma City University baseball team knocked off MidAmerica Nazarene (Kan.) 3-2 on Friday at Jim Wade Stadium.
The Stars, ranked eighth in the NAIA baseball, scored three runs in the sixth inning and hung on to move to 11-1 on the season. MidAmerica Nazarene, fell to 0-2.
Bryce Milligan threw a complete-game striking out 10 in the win for the OCU. Milligan, a senior from Blanchard, Okla., limited MidAmerica Nazarene to two unearned runs on four hits in seven innings. Milligan improves to 3-0 on the season, still not allowing an earned run.
In the fifth, MidAmerica Nazarene broke the scoreless tie game on an error, a walk and two singles. The damage could have been worse, but the rally was cut short when Milligan strikes out Jeremie Gonzalez, stranding runners on first and second.
The Stars answered in the bottom of the sixth as they scored all three runs. Elliott Cary singled up the middle to drive in Jared Hazeldine to get OCU on the board. Tyler Williams followed Cary driving a deep sacrifice fly into left center to allow Quin Walbergh to tag up and cross the plate and Cary scored the winning run on a Peyton Crispin line drive through the left side of the infield.
Cary, a senior from Edmond, Okla., went 2-for-3 on the day with an RBI and a run scored. He improved his average to .250 through 12 games this season.
Caleb Davis, a junior from Yukon, Okla., snapped his 0-for-18 streak in the sixth inning with a single to left field that advanced Cary to third base an at bat before he scores the winning run.
OCU will take on MidAmerica
Nazarene once again 11 a.m. Saturday at Jim Wade Stadium. The Stars will also play Concordia (Neb.) at 3:30 p.m. Saturday.
