OCU cruises past Grand View 2-0

Milligan opens season with no-hitter

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University knocked off Grand View (Iowa) 2-0 on Friday afternoon at Jim Wade Stadium.
Bryce Milligan threw a complete-game no-hitter in the win for the Stars. OCU, ranked eighth in NAIA baseball, opened the 2019 season with a win.
"The story of the game is Bryce throwing a no-hitter on opening day," OCU head coach Denney Crabaugh said. "You cannot ask for much better than that. It is always true if we score we might win, but if they do not score, we will never lose. A big-game pitcher came out in a big game and threw like he needed to."
Elliott Cary, a senior from Niceville, Fla., hit a sacrifice fly to the left fielder that scored Noah Barks in the first inning. That was all the Stars needed for the victory.
OCU added a run in the sixth off a Tyler Williams opposite-field home run.
Barks, a freshman from Mustang, Okla., went 2-for-3 with a double and scored a run, while Williams, a junior from Peoria, Ariz., went 2-for-2 with a homer, an RBI, a walk, a run and two stolen bases.
Milligan, a junior from Blanchard, Okla., collected his first win of the season on seven shutout innings with eight strikeouts.
The Stars take the field Saturday at 10 a.m. against Grand View and then again at 3:30 p.m. against York (Neb.) at Jim Wade Stadium.
