Arkansas gets by OCU 77-62

Stars trailed by three at end of first half

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Oklahoma City University fell short to Arkansas 77-62 on Wednesday at Bud Walton Arena in a women's basketball exhibition.
Oklahoma City built an early 9-2 lead with 7:42 left in the first quarter and led at various points throughout the period. Abby Selzer, a sophomore from Thomas, Okla., powered the Stars, ranked third in NAIA Division I, with 17 points on 7-of-9 shooting and six rebounds.
Brennyn Seagler, a senior from Gruver, Texas, provided OCU with 17 points, five rebounds, two assists and two steals, while Mallory Lockhart, a sophomore from Keller, Texas, added 13 points, three rebounds and two steals.
The Stars shot 41.4 percent from the field in the game and 48.3 percent in the first half. OCU outrebounded Arkansas 33-32. The Razorbacks hit 45.8 percent of their shots from the floor in the game and 48.1 percent in the second half.
Chelsea Dungee tallied 31 points to lead Arkansas, picked to finish fifth in the preseason SEC coaches poll. Amber Ramirez also joined Dungee with double figures, scoring 15 points.
The Stars jumped out in front 9-2 to start the game and went on two 6-0 runs during the first half. 3-pointers from Seagler and Lockhart fueled the solid start from OCU. Selzer contributed four points during each 6-0 spurt. A layup from Lockhart gave the Stars their last lead of the ballgame of 23-22 at the 8:37 mark of the second quarter. Payton Taylor finished off the second OCU 6-0 run with a jumper that tied the game, 35-35, with 1:03 remaining in the half.
Arkansas outscored OCU 21-12 in the 3rd quarter, and 37-26 in the second half. The Razorbacks ended the third quarter on a 9-2 run, extending their 52-48 lead to 12-point advantage. Ramirez collected seven points during the spurt. The Razorbacks scored five straight to start the fourth to grab their largest lead of the game, 66-49.
The Stars play their second of three exhibitions on the season against Texas A&M, ranked sixth in the NCAA according to the Associated Press, at 7 p.m. Friday in College Station, Texas.
