OCU tops No. 17 USAO 3-2

Caputo leads Stars past nationally-ranked USAO

OKLAHOMA CITY – Madi Caputo scored twice to help Oklahoma City University pick up a 3-2 conference win over top 25-ranked foe USAO on Tuesday at Stars Field.
Caputo, a freshman from Broken Arrow, Okla., scored her second and third goals of the season and separated herself for the team lead.
Oklahoma City improved to 3-1-1, 1-0 in the Sooner Athletic Conference, w
hile USAO, ranked 17th in NAIA women's soccer, fell to 6-3, 0-1 in the SAC.
Caputo got the scoring started in the 23rd minute on a cross from Natalie Eley. Caputo took the ball away from the USAO defense and assisted Sara Ricks, a senior from Keller, Texas, who scored in the 38th minute. Caputo finished the scoring with the winning goal for the Stars in the 44th minute to lead OCU to the half up 3-0.
Oklahoma City outshot USAO eight shots to three shots at the half. In the second half, USAO charged by taking 13 shots to three shots for OCU in the second half. USAO scored twice, while taking nine shots on goal in the second half. USAO led the shots on goal nine shots to seven shots.
Kirsten Thomas, a senior from Keller, Texas, collected seven saves in the match. Brandi Hutchison allowed three goals and collected two saves in the first half. Hutchison was replaced by Jessica Shumer, who also collected two saves in the second half.
OCU will head to Siloam Springs, Ark., to take on fifth-ranked John Brown (Ark.) at 5 p.m. Saturday.
