OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University dropped its season-opening contest 5-2 to Our Lady of the Lake (Texas) Saturday at Stars Field.
Natalie Eley, a senior from Burton, England, got the Stars out front by scoring the first goal in the 14th minute assisted by Madi Caputo, a freshman from Broken Arrow, Okla. Both teams played in their first match of the year.
Maryssa Garza provided Our Lady of the Lake the tying goal in the next minute. Ashton Denham, a sophomore from Tulsa, Okla., put OCU back up with a goal in the 41st minute. Katie Vaughn recorded the assist. OCU led at the half 2-1.
Our Lady of the Lake came fighting back coming out of the locker room. Yolanda Vazquez scored in the 49th minute to tie the game. In the 56th minute Baye Polansky scored the game winner for the Saints assisted by Dawson Brinkley. Erica Robertson added a goal in the 88th minute, assisted by Ilaina Brenes-Rodriguez, and Alyssa Riepel added another in the 89th minute.
Kristen Thomas, a senior from Keller, Texas collected nine saves for the stars.
OCU host Randall for a 5 p.m. match Tuesday at Stars Field.
