Stars bow out of NAIA World Series

Second-ranked Georgia Gwinnett ousts fifth-ranked OCU 13-3

LEWISTON, Idaho – Oklahoma City University closed out its season in a 13-3 loss to Georgia Gwinnett on Monday at Harris Field in the NAIA World Series.
Elliott Cary got the Stars on the scoreboard with a two-run home run in the fifth inning. Fifth-ranked Oklahoma City ended the season 51-10.
OCU reached the NAIA World Series for the second consecutive year and 16th time overall. The Stars posted a 50-win season for the second year in a row and 14th time in program history. Oklahoma City has at least one win in the World Series in all 16 of its appearances.
The Stars' Branden Grieger drew a bases-loaded walk to plate a run in the ninth inning. With two out, Hunter Aguirre and Quinton Walbergh each had base hits, while Jacob Chappell reached on a walk.
In the fifth, Aguirre got aboard with a lead-off walk. Cary launched a 1-0 pitch over the right-field wall near the foul pole for his 10th homer of the year.
Aguirre, a senior from Oklahoma City, scored twice and went 1-for-3, while Lane Milligan, a senior from Binger, Okla., went 3-for-4 for OCU.
Kade Carrigan and Chris Jones hit homers for second-ranked Georgia Gwinnett (49-11). The Grizzlies led 9-0 after Alex Garland scored on a wild pitch in the fourth.
OCU's 13 seniors helped the Stars go 220-71 the past five years with two Sooner Athletic Conference regular-season championships, the 2017 SAC Tournament championship, two NAIA Championship Opening Round titles and two trips to the NAIA World Series.
