OCU garners No. 2 seed in NAIA Softball World Series

Second-ranked Stars play next 2:30 p.m. May 26

CLERMONT, Fla. – Oklahoma City University will seek its third consecutive national championship in the NAIA Softball World Series starting at 2:30 p.m. CDT Saturday, May 26 at Legends Way Ball Fields.
OCU (51-7) will await the winner between Columbia (Mo.) and ninth-ranked Mobile (Ala.), who meet in the first game of the World Series at 9 a.m. CDT Friday, May 25. The Stars took the No. 2 seed.
Fans can follow the World Series via live stats and video. Watching the broadcast costs $9.95 per day or $29.95 for a tournament pass. Advance tournament passes for admission to the games costs $50 through May 21.
Oklahoma City reached the World Series for the 31st time with its 3-0 victory over 16th-ranked Grand View (Iowa) on Wednesday at Ann Lacy Stadium in the NAIA Championship Opening Round Oklahoma City Bracket. OCU owns the most national championships (10), runner-up finishes (five) and World Series wins (125) in NAIA softball. OCU has captured national crowns in 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2007, 2016 and 2017.
Phil McSpadden has directed OCU to a 1,664-374 record, all 10 of the program's national titles and 29 World Series trips in 31 years as head coach. He leads college softball in career wins vs. four-year schools. McSpadden collected career victory No. 1,650 in the first game of a doubleheader sweep of Bacone on April 13 at Ann Lacy Stadium.
The Stars opened the season as the No. 1-ranked team, taking the top spot in the NAIA top 25 for the 15th consecutive time. OCU rose to No. 2 in the May 8 rankings after going to seventh earlier in the season. Oklahoma City has a streak of appearing in the ratings for 134 consecutive polls to lead the NAIA.
This season, OCU leads the NAIA with a 1.04 team earned run average. The Stars rank second nationally with a .150 opponents' batting average and third in batting average (.366), runs per game (7.6), runs scored (412), RBIs (353) and batters struck out (397).
