Stars drop 5-2 decision to USAO

OCU goes to 3-3 vs. ranked teams this season

OKLAHOMA CITY – USAO topped Oklahoma City University 5-2 on Thursday night at Jim Wade Stadium in a battle of top 10-ranked teams in NAIA baseball.
Miguel Lorenzo's three-run home run provided the difference for seventh-ranked USAO (29-4, 15-1 Sooner Athletic Conference). The ninth-ranked Stars went to 27-5, 13-3 in the SAC.
Oklahoma City went up 2-1 as Elliott Cary mashed a solo blast beyond the left-field wall to lead off the bottom of the third inning. The Stars took a 1-0 lead when Branden Grieger pounded a shot over the center-field wall to start the bottom of the first.
In the top of the fifth, Lorenzo hit a three-run homer with none out to rally USAO to a 4-2 lead. The Drovers tacked on a run in the seventh when Brandon Shumway reached home plate on a double-play ball.
Francis Ventura earned the victory, working eight innings. Ventura (7-0) allowed two runs on five hits and two walks while logging 110 pitches. Angel Reyes picked up save by finishing up on the mound. Bryce Milligan was saddled with the loss. Miguel Figueroa limited USAO to one hit in the final three innings.
Grieger, a senior from Simi Valley, Calif., had a 2-for-3 night with his sixth homer of the year to tie for the team lead. Cary, a junior from Niceville, Fla., put together a 2-for-3 game with his fifth homer this year. Joe Lytle, a senior from Yukon, Okla., went 1-for-3.

OCU squares off with USAO in a 1 p.m. doubleheader Saturday in Chickasha, Okla.
