Stars hammer Friends 27-1

Lytle breaks OCU career doubles mark, Milligan ties NAIA single-season doubles record

WICHITA, Kan. – Oklahoma City University dispatched of Friends (Kan.) 27-1 on Tuesday night at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium.
Joe Lytle set the OCU career record with his 84th double, while Lane Milligan equaled the NAIA single-season triples mark with 14. The Stars, ranked fifth in NAIA baseball, moved to 35-5.
Oklahoma City tallied its most runs since a 33-10 victory over Northwestern Oklahoma State on March 20, 2008 in Alva, Okla. Garrett Foster drove in nine runs for the most RBIs by an OCU player since Miguel Beltran produced 13 RBIs in a 24-2 win over St. Gregory's on March 26, 2011 in Shawnee, Okla.
Lytle, a senior from Yukon, Okla., pounded a double into left-center field with one out in the second inning. Lytle surpassed the Stars' Jared Baker, who had 83 doubles from 2014-17.
Milligan, a senior from Binger, Okla., smacked a two-run triple to right field in the fourth inning. Milligan matched the 14 triples Ricky McMullen from William Carey (Miss.) hit in 1978.
Foster, a senior from Ardmore, Okla., became the first Star since J.J. Bissell to crush three home runs in a game. Foster launched a three-run blast over the center-field fence in the first inning, then a three-run shot to left in the fourth. Foster hammered a three-run homer, his eighth round-tripper of the year, in the seventh. Bissell nailed three homers in OCU's 22-21 win over Oklahoma Wesleyan on April 21, 2015 in Bartlesville, Okla.
Lytle, Jacob Chappell, Daniel Costello and Caleb Davis also hit homers for the Stars. Chappell put OCU ahead 5-0 with one out in the second with his solo shot. Costello belted a three-run homer to center as the Stars built a 10-0 second-inning advantage.
Branden Grieger lined an RBI double to right to supply the Stars a 15-0 fourth-inning margin. In the fifth, Lytle socked a two-run homer to right to boost OCU's lead to 21-0. Grieger's sacrifice fly put Oklahoma City up 24-0 in the sixth before Friends scored in the bottom of the inning.
Foster finished 4-for-6 with three runs scored, while Shaun Corso, a senior from Lancaster, Pa., turned in a 5-for-5 night with a double, four runs scored and an RBI. Costello, a senior from Edmond, Okla., was 3-for-4 with three runs scored and five runs driven in, and Milligan scored five times while going 3-for-4 with three runs knocked in.
Lytle went 3-for-6 with two runs scored and three RBIs. Cary, Chappell, Grieger and Hunter Aguirre provided the Stars with two hits each.
Blaze Hastings benefited from Oklahoma City's offensive explosion. Hastings, a senior right-hander from Guthrie, Okla., kept Friends scoreless through four innings, striking out two, walking one and allowing six hits. Hastings improved to 7-0 this season. Kolin Marley, Miguel Figueroa and Tanner Andrews also pitched.
OCU faces 20th-ranked Texas Wesleyan at 4 p.m. Friday in Fort Worth, Texas.
