Stars smash Tabor 14-3, Randall 15-5

Lane Milligan sets OCU record for most triples in a season with 13

OKLAHOMA CITY – Lane Milligan's record-breaking performance helped boost Oklahoma City University to a 14-3 victory over Tabor (Kan.) and 15-5 win over Randall Tuesday night at Jim Wade Stadium.
Milligan, a senior from Binger, Okla., finished the two-game stint with eight total hits, nine RBIs and three runs. His triple against Tabor in the bottom of the fifth inning broke the OCU record for most triples in a season with 11, snapping Jeff Maack's record of 10 set in 1987 and 1988. The Stars, ranked No. 9 in NAIA baseball, extended their winning streak to four games and improved to 31-5 on the year.
Milligan went on to hit two more triples against Randall and extend his school record to 13, only one triple shy of tying the NAIA record set by Ricky McMullen of William Carey (Miss.) that has held for 40 years. Milligan owns 17 triples in his career, 10 away from tying the OCU and NAIA record set my Maack in 1986-88.
Not only did Milligan end Tuesday's two-game slate with his name in the Oklahoma City history books, but he also added a double and two homeruns, including a walk-off grand slam against Tabor that ended the game by run rule. He leads the team in batting average (.488), hits (61), triples (13), homeruns (8) and RBIs (58).
The Stars held a 2-1 lead over Tabor heading to the bottom of the fifth inning, but were ignited by an RBI single from Garrett Foster that drove in the first of seven runs in the inning. Jacob Chappell later knocked a two-RBI triple that put OCU ahead 6-1. Branden Grieger, a senior from Simi Valley, Calif., followed with his seventh homer of the season to bring in two more runs and Milligan capped the inning with his record-breaking triple.
Grieger finished the day with three total hits, four RBIs and three runs. Chappell had three hits, three runs and two RBIs while Foster ended with three hits, four runs and two RBIs. Daniel Costello, a senior from Edmond, Okla., finished with four total hits, four runs and two RBIs.
Blaze Hastings, a senior from Guthrie, Okla., kept his record on the mound perfect as he improved to 6-0 after pitching five innings and allowing just one run and striking out five against Tabor. Craig Knoche pitched the final three innings in relief and tossed two strikeouts.
OCU gave up three runs to Randall in the top of the first, but responded with five runs in the bottom half of the inning to regain control. Milligan opened the inning with a two-RBI homer and the Stars tacked on a few more runs after drawing walks with the bases loaded. A homerun from Foster pushed Oklahoma City's lead to 7-3 in the bottom of the second.
Hunter Aguirre, a senior from Oklahoma City, notched four of his six total hits and all four of his RBIs against Randall. Joe Lytle added two of his five total hits and three of his six runs against Randall. Dillon Goddard produced two hits and two runs, including his first double of the year in the bottom of the fifth.
Ricky Parra, a senior from Bronx, N.Y., picked up his second win of the season after pitching three innings and allowing only three hits and three runs. Kolin Marley and Garrett Pike each pitched two innings in relief and both threw four strikeouts.
Oklahoma City next opens a three-game series beginning at 6 p.m. Friday against Southwestern Assemblies of God (Texas) at Jim Wade Stadium.
