OCU cruises past Baker, MidAmerica Nazarene

Loux, Perez hit their first home runs for Stars

WICHITA, Kan. – Top-ranked Oklahoma City University topped MidAmerica Nazarene 8-0 and Baker (Kan.) 7-1 on Friday in the Friends Invitational at the Two Rivers Youth Complex.
OCU, ranked No. 1 in NAIA softball, moved to 7-1 on the year. Brittany Perez sparked the Stars with a three-run home run against MidAmerica Nazarene, while Baileigh Loux pounded a two-run homer vs. Baker.
Perez, a junior from Ventura, Calif., put OCU ahead 3-0 over MidAmerica Nazarene with her blast with one out in the second inning. Perez homered for the first time as a Star.
In the third, Jaci Smith added an RBI double to left field, then scored on a grounder hit by Laci Joyner. Kennedy Jackson gave the Stars a 6-0 advantage when she reached home plate on a double steal.
Jackson, a freshman from Moore, Okla., went 3-for-4 and scored three times.
Abby Meador limited MidAmerica Nazarene to two hits and two walks in six innings. Meador, a senior from Midwest City, Okla., struck out 14 while improving to 2-0 this year.
Against Baker, Bailey Whitmore broke up a scoreless tie in the sixth by doubling to center field to bring home Smith.

Smith drove in three runs by crushing a double to right with the bases loaded with one out in the seventh. Loux followed by hammering a two-run shot beyond the left-field fence as OCU scored six runs in the inning.
Smith, a junior from Godley, Texas, was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and three RBIs, while Loux, a freshman from Reno, Nev., turned in a 2-for-3 performance, scored two runs and drove in two. Loux hit her first collegiate homer.
Georgia Wall held Baker to one run on two hits and a walk. Wall, a junior from Marlow, Okla., fanned six. She moved to 3-1 on the year.
The Stars meet Tabor (Kan.) at 10 a.m., Ottawa (Kan.) at 2 p.m. and Kansas Wesleyan at 4 p.m. Saturday in Wichita, Kan.
