Stars gear up for final road game of regular season

THE MATCHUP
· Oklahoma City University gears up for its final road game of the regular season against Southwestern Assemblies of God (Texas) on Friday
· The Stars enter the matchup a half-game back from first place USAO in the Sooner Athletic Conference standings
· OCU has won its last three meetings vs SAGU by an average of 33.7 points
 
ABOUT THE STARS
· Oklahoma City defeated Southwestern Christian 80-69 last Thursday at Abe Lemons Arena. The Stars (23-5, 15-3 SAC) were then awarded a victory by forfeit for their originally scheduled game against St. Gregory's on Saturday
· Daniela Galindo, a 5-foot-10 senior from Shattuck, Okla., leads the Stars with 21.1 points per game, the fifth highest average in NAIA Division I. Galindo went for 29 points in the win over Southwestern Christian, the eighth time this year she's scored at least 27 in a game
· Taylor LaCour, a 6-foot-1 junior from Georgetown, Texas, provided OCU with 14 points and four rebounds against Southwestern Christian. She averages 12.4 points and 5.8 boards per contest
· Among NAIA Division I, OCU ranks second in free throw percentage (77.4), fourth in 3-point field goal percentage (37.9) and fifth in total rebound margin (plus-9.27). To see how the Stars rank in other categories, click here
• OCU moved to No. 7 in the latest NAIA Division I rankings. Oklahoma City extended the NAIA's longest streak of top-25 appearances to 244 consecutive rankings dating back to 1997-98. OCU has made 23 trips to the NAIA Division I Tournament and captured nine national championships in 1988, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2012, 2014, 2015 and 2017
• The Stars have been installed as the favorite to win the Sooner Athletic Conference in the preseason coaches poll. OCU took its 17th SAC regular-season championship and 11th SAC Tournament title in 2016-17. The Stars have won or shared seven of the past eight SAC regular-season titles and with a 160-14 mark (.919 winning percentage) in conference play during that time
• Oklahoma City won the most recent meeting between the two teams 91-49 on Jan. 4 at Abe Lemons Arena. Brooke Irwin poured in 22 points, grabbed four rebounds and had two blocks in 15 minutes, while Payton Taylor added seven points, four assists and four rebounds. The Stars own an 8-1 all-time record vs. Southwestern Assemblies of God
 
ABOUT THE LADY LIONS
• Southwestern Assemblies of God fell to Bacone 93-58 on Saturday in Muskogee, Okla. The Lady Lions (13-13, 8-10 SAC) shot just 29.1 percent from the field and committed 25 turnovers
• Lexi Rich, a 5-foot-8 sophomore from San Antonio, leads the Lady Lions in scoring with 14.6 points per game. She notched 21 points and drilled five 3-pointers in the loss to Bacone

• Southwestern Assemblies of God was picked to finish eighth in the preseason SAC coaches poll
 
MEET THE COACHES
Bo Overton (77-16, third season with OCU)
• Led Stars to 34-2 season, accruing 2017 NAIA Division I and Sooner Athletic Conference coach of the year awards
• Overton has coached three all-Americans while at OCU, including Daniela Wallen, the 2017 NAIA Division I player of the year
• Overton served as an assistant coach for the Chinese national team in the 2012 Olympics
• From 1998-2004, he served as assistant for Oklahoma. During that time, the Sooners made five NCAA Tournament trips with the 2002 NCAA runner-up finish and Final Four berth, three Big 12 regular-season titles and two conference tournament crowns
 
Tiffany Phillips (42-43, third season with SAGU)
• Phillips took Hector (Ark.), Marshall (Ark.) and Morrilton Sacred Heart (Ark.) to state-tournament appearances as a high-school head coach
• She had coached collegiately as an assistant at Delta State (Miss.) and Central Arkansas
