OCU squares off with Mid-America Christian in SAC women's tournament

Stars took 14th SAC regular-season crown

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University meets Mid-America Christian at 2 p.m. Friday in the Sooner Athletic Conference women's soccer tournament quarterfinals at Stars Field.
OCU (10-2-2, 6-1-1 SAC) became SAC regular-season co-champion with Texas Wesleyan with its 1-0 win over Southwestern Christian on Tuesday at home. The Stars took their first SAC regular-season title since 2013 and notched double-figure wins for the 23rd time in the program's 25-year history.
The Stars have posted 10 shutouts this season. OCU extended its winning streak to seven, during which time the Stars have whitewashed all six opponents. Kirsten Thomas, a senior from Keller, Texas, ranks second in the SAC in goals-against average (0.82) and third in the league with 65 saves. Thomas has been four-time SAC defensive player of the week and two-time NAIA defensive player of the week this year.
Madi Caputo and Sara Ricks each have five goals to lead Oklahoma City. Caputo, a freshman from Broken Arrow, Okla., has the most assists (six) and points (16) on the squad. Caputo collected SAC offensive player of the week for Sept. 24-30.
The SAC Tournament champion advances to the NAIA Championships. The NAIA Championship Opening Round will be at campus sites around the nation Nov. 17, while the NAIA Championships are set for Nov. 26-Dec. 1 in Orange Beach, Ala.
