Stars crush Oklahoma Wesleyan 44-3

Borror, Holman and Landgraff pin opponents

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University routed Oklahoma Wesleyan 44-3 in Sam Hazewinkel's head-coaching debut Tuesday night at Abe Lemons Arena.
Tanner Borror, Connor Holman and Matt Landgraff collected falls for the Stars, ranked 15th in NAIA men's wrestling.
Montana Moon and Chase Vincent of OCU reeled off technical-fall wins. Oklahoma Wesleyan managed Levi Youngwolfe's 5-0 win over Logan Chappell.
Holman, a freshman from Choctaw, Okla., outlasted Joe Jones in the 149-pound bout. Holman pinned Jones 6:27 into the match in his first action as a collegian.
Landgraff, a senior from Weeki Wachee, Fla., finished off Grant Williams in 1:01 in the 165-pound contest. Borror, a junior from Mustang, Okla., came up with the pin of Ridge Smith in 4:39 at 184.
Hazewinkel picked up his first dual win as a coach after competing in the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary the past week. He arrived back in the United States late Sunday.
"A big thank you to the OCU and wrestling communities for us get started on the right foot," Hazewinkel said. "The energy was incredible. The guys wrestled well. I had been gone for two weeks. They worked hard while I was gone. The glory goes to them and assistant coach Josh Powell."
In the first match of the dual, Moon overwhelmed Landon Loudermilk 15-0, ending the match in 5:15. Moon, a sophomore from Chickasha, Okla., racked up three near falls, including a four-point near fall in the first period.
Vincent, a sophomore from Yukon, Okla., took an 18-0 win in 2:26. Vincent rolled up four near falls, including three four-pointers, on Austin Andrew in the 174-pound match.
The Stars' Jon McGowan became an 11-0 winner over Austin Daniels in his first college match at 157 pounds. Jaxen Gilmore used a four-point near fall to key his 12-7 win over Dayton Marvel at 141.
Oklahoma City takes on Ouachita Baptist (Ark.) at 3 p.m. Saturday at Abe Lemons Arena.
