Eastern Oregon nips OCU 24-23

Stars rally to lead entering final match of dual

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Oklahoma City University fell short to Eastern Oregon 24-23 on Thursday at the Fort Wayne Convention Center in the NWCA National Duals.
Jacey Lindner came up with the decisive win for Eastern Oregon against the Stars, who were wrestling in their first dual of the season. Oklahoma City, ranked 10th in the Women's College Wrestling Association, went into the tournament consolation bracket to face fourth-ranked Cumberlands (Ky.) at 9:30 a.m. CST Friday.
The Stars rallied to take a 22-21 lead entering the final match of the dual. Rachel Watters rolled to a 13-0 victory over Madisen Bozovich in the 170-pound bout to put OCU in front.
OCU used five consecutive victories to charge ahead and overcome a 20-0 hole in the dual. Erin Redford collected a fall in 1:27 over Renay Monohan in the 143-pound contest to cut the Stars' deficit to 20-15. Yvonne Galindo edged Alexis Cavero in the 155-pound match to slice Eastern Oregon's advantage to 21-18.
Lindner knocked off McKyla Kerr 8-4 at 191 pounds to seal the outcome. Cassidy Freeman, Amber Pair and Jessica Dehart pinned their opponents to give 15th-ranked Eastern Oregon a 20-0 lead.
Oklahoma City owns five consecutive crowns in the NWCA National Duals won from 2008-12.
