OCU conquers Our Lady of the Lake 2-1 in season opener

Sjoholm scores Stars' first goal of year

SAN ANTONIO – The Oklahoma City University women's soccer team won its season opener 2-1 against nationally ranked Our Lady of the Lake (Texas) at OLLU Field.
Madeleine Sjoholm, a freshman from Uppsala, Sweden, scored the opening goal of the match. Our Lady of the Lake, ranked 24th in the NAIA, moved to 0-1 on the year, while the Stars advanced to 1-0.
Sjoholm's goal, which was assisted by freshman Bailey Webb, came in the first minute of the second half. OLLU's Maggie Miller tied the game with a goal in the 50th minute.
The Stars regained the lead in the 89th minute when the ball slipped past the OLLU keeper for an own goal. 
Kirsten Thomas, a junior from Keller, Texas, and Kristina Patterson, a sophomore from Rockwall, Texas, split duties at goalkeeper for OCU. Thomas collected three saves, while Patterson had one. 
Oklahoma City returns to action at 3 p.m. Sept. 9 against Texas A&M-Texarkana at Stars Field.
