OCU takes 9-0 romp past Kansas Wesleyan

Top-ranked Stars face No. 23 Bellevue at noon Tuesday

OKLAHOMA CITY – No. 1-ranked Oklahoma City University routed Kansas Wesleyan 9-0 on Monday at Ann Lacy Stadium in the NAIA Softball Championship Opening Round Oklahoma City Bracket.
McRae Cayton smacked a solo home run, while Madison Ellis belted a two-run blast for the Stars. OCU (62-1) faces 23rd-ranked Bellevue (Neb.) at noon Tuesday at Ann Lacy Stadium.
Abby Meador collected the victory, and Georgia Wall reeled in the save for Oklahoma City. The Stars took advantage of five Kansas Wesleyan errors, four in the top of the sixth inning. OCU cruised to its 15th consecutive win.
Cayton nailed a run-scoring base hit near the third-base foul line to give OCU a 1-0 first-inning lead. Cayton ripped her fourth homer of the year over the scoreboard in left field for a 2-0 Stars third-inning advantage.
In the fifth, Ellis launched a fly ball over the right-field wall for an opposite-field, two-run homer as OCU went in front 4-0. Ellis hit home run No. 17 on the year.
The Stars plated five runs in the sixth. Jaci Smith drove in a run with a base hit to left, then reached home plate on Ellis' bunt single. Kansas Wesleyan committed two errors on the same play to allow two runs in.
Meador, a junior from Midwest City, Okla., went 4.1 innings, struck out eight and permitted two hits and four walks. Meador improved her record to 22-1. Wall, a sophomore from Marlow, Okla., entered in the fifth with two Kansas Wesleyan runners on and a 4-0 OCU lead. Wall fanned two in 1.2 innings.
Ellis, a senior from Yukon, Okla., went 3-for-4, doubled, scored twice and knocked in three runs. Cayton, a senior from Irvine, Calif., had a 2-for-4 performance with two runs scored and two RBIs, and Smith, a sophomore from Godley, Texas, was 2-for-3 with three runs scored and an RBI.
