Stars grab 10-5 victory over Friends

OCU pounds five home runs in win

OKLAHOMA CITY – Top-ranked Oklahoma City University smacked five home runs over the course of three innings to take a 10-5 win over Friends (Kan.) on Monday in the NAIA Baseball Championship Opening Round Oklahoma City Bracket at Jim Wade Stadium.
Oklahoma City produced double-digit runs for the sixth straight game to move to 46-8 on the season. The Stars will take on Campbellsville (Ky.) at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in the winner's bracket game with the winner moving to the bracket championship game.
After falling behind by four in the top half of the third inning, OCU outscored Friends 10-1 over the last six innings.
Jerame Littell got the scoring started for Oklahoma City with a solo blast in the bottom of the third to cut the lead to 4-1.
The Stars' offense exploded with four runs in each of the next two innings to blow the game open. Shaun Corso hit an RBI single in the fourth to begin the onslaught and was brought home when Garrett Foster lifted a two-run homer over the right-field wall. Two batters later, Skyler Bean hit a 1-1 pitch over the fence to give OCU their first lead of the game.
The four runs in the bottom of the fifth came from a pair of two-run moon shots off the bats of Cory Linn and Branden Grieger to put the Stars up 9-4.
Friends (32-21) threatened with a rally in the seventh inning, but only produced one run in the inning as Oklahoma City starting pitcher Matt Young induced a fly out to get out of the jam.
Young, a junior right-hander from Glendora, Calif., picked up the complete-game victory for OCU to move to 9-2 on the season. Over nine innings over work, Young allowed seven hits, five runs, one walk and struck out eight.
Corso, a junior from Lancaster, Pa., led the Stars offensively, going 3-for-5 with two runs scored and a RBI. Lane Milligan, Jared Baker, Foster and Littell all produced multi-hit games.
