OCU grabs series win over Texas Wesleyan

Stars split Saturday doubleheader

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma City University baseball team split two games 7-3 and 12-3 Saturday against Texas Wesleyan at Jim Wade Stadium to win their fifth straight conference series after a 9-8 win Friday.
Oklahoma City, ranked No. 2 in the NAIA, push their winning streak to 18 games after the game one victory. The Stars now sit at 37-5 and 14-1 in Sooner Athletic Conference play.
OCU fell behind 2-0 after the top half of the first inning in game one, but exploded for five runs in the bottom of the inning to grab the lead.
The Stars recorded seven hits in the inning, highlighted by back-to-back two-RBI doubles from Cory Linn and Garrett Foster.
Texas Wesleyan, ranked 12th in the NAIA, were only able to muster one run the rest of the way as Stars' pitcher Mark Simon shut the door.
Simon, a senior out of Houston, got the complete game victory after pitching seven innings, allowing eight hits, two earned runs and striking out five.
OCU added single runs in the third and fourth thanks to a home run from Branden Greiger and a groundout by Shaun Corso.
Foster led the way offensively in game one, going 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored.
Oklahoma City jumped ahead 1-0 in the third inning of game one on a solo homer from Lane Milligan, but the Rams struck for five runs in both the fifth and sixth innings to grab a 10-1 lead.
OCU added one run in the sixth and one in the seventh when Milligan struck for his second homer of the game to cut the lead to 12-3.
Milligan, a junior from Englewood, Colo., finished game two 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored. He finished the series going 7-for-11 with three home runs, four RBIs, six runs scored and raised his season batting average to a whopping .491.
OCU continues conference play Thursday with a twin bill against Wayland Baptist in Plainview, Texas beginning at 3:00 p.m.
