OCU completes regular season undefeated against NAIA competition

OKLAHOMA CITY – The top-ranked Oklahoma City University softball team closed its regular season with a doubleheader sweep of Mid-America Christian 7-0 and 7-3 Friday at Jack Allen Field.
Oklahoma City finished the regular season undefeated against NAIA competition, with the only loss coming April 14 against West Texas A&M, then ranked sixth in NCAA Division II. The Stars are now 57-1, 28-0 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
OCU exploded offensively in game one with five runs in the top of the second. The Stars got an RBI triple from Laci Joyner and a three-run homer by Jaci Smith in the inning.
Oklahoma City tacked on single runs in both the sixth and seventh innings thanks to a solo home run by Kali Pugh and an RBI groundout from Abby Meador.
Smith, a sophomore from Godley, Texas, led the way offensively in game one, going 3-for-4 with three RBIs and a run scored. She finished a triple shy of hitting for the cycle.
Georgia Wall earned her 24th win of the season after allowing just two hits over four shutout innings and striking out two. Meador came in and threw the final three innings, allowed one hit, struck out three and picked up her first save of the season.
OCU jumped ahead early in game two as well with three runs in the top of the third highlighted by an RBI double from Pugh and a two-run home run Madison Ellis.
The Stars added single runs in the fourth and sixth innings thanks to RBIs from Joyner.
Pugh made the game 7-0 after a two-run home run in the seventh inning.
MACU (16-33, 7-18 SAC) scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh, but were unable to add anymore as Jaden Shores shut the door.
Shores, a freshman from Blanchard, Okla., picked up the win after allowing four hit, three runs and striking out three to move to 12-0 on the season.
The Stars begin the postseason with the SAC Tournament at Ann Lacy Stadium on May 4-6.
