OCU splits doubleheader with St. Gregory's

Top-ranked Stars end three-game losing skid with 10-4 victory

SHAWNEE, Okla. – No. 1-ranked Oklahoma City University rebounded from a 3-2 setback to win the second game of a doubleheader 10-4 over St. Gregory's on Saturday at Bill Nicklas Field.
Joe Lytle provided the Stars the winning run on a sacrifice fly as part of six-run second inning during the second game. OCU, top-ranked in NAIA baseball, ended a three-game losing streak in moving to 41-8, 18-3 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
In the second inning of the second game, Branden Grieger touched off the Stars' scoring by ripping a two-run double along the first-base foul line. Lane Milligan added his own two-run double down the right-field line.
Skyler Bean reached home plate on Lytle's fly ball into right field. Caleb Davis, running for Milligan, scored on a St. Gregory's error to give OCU a 6-0 advantage.
In the sixth, Cory Linn belted a three-run home run over the right-field fence to put the Stars on top 9-1. Lytle's RBI double into left-center gave OCU a seventh-inning 10-3 lead.
Linn, a senior from Moore, Okla., went 3-for-3, scored twice and drove in three runs on his 12th homer of the year. Grieger, a senior from Simi Valley, Calif., turned in a 2-for-4 performance with a double, run scored and two RBIs.

In the first game, Armando Farjardo supplied St. Gregory's (28-18, 11-9 SAC) the winning run on a base hit to left-center field with one out in the bottom of the seventh.
In the sixth, Grieger knocked in the tying run on a single to shallow left field. Foster pounded a triple into deep right field leading off the sixth before scoring on Grieger's hit.
With the bases full in the fourth, Skyler Bean bunted for a hit that allowed Shaun Corso to score OCU's first run of the day.
St. Gregory's took a 2-0 second-inning lead. Ryan Lugan-Leonard scored on a double steal from third base. Adrian Soltero reached home plate on an OCU fielding miscue.
